Karen Hallion Does Disney Steampunk
In a recent blog, I shared the Disney Steampunk art of MechaniqueFairy and many of you were excited to discover it, if the number of visits to the page are any indication. So, I decided to look around deviantArt for even more interesting steampunk galleries. MecaniqueFairy’s images have gone a bit viral on Facebook, which is how I found them. Yet there are other terrific artists waiting for some recognition, too.
Karen Hallion
I can't claim to have "discovered" Karen Hallion, as she has already seen several of her designs become popular TeeFury shirts! I actually have one of those, which features The Doctor's TARDIS in the home of Cindy Lou Who. She has related images of various Disney characters meeting the titular hero from Doctor Who.
Now, I didn’t start looking for more Disney Steampunk, but I found it in Karen Hallion's amazing deviantArt gallery. These images feature a bold style, and characters like a tinkering Ariel, tomboyish Snow White, and Tinkerbelle with mechanical wings. Start with her Disney Steampunk gallery, but you’ll see pretty quickly that it’s just a taste of her art.
She also has a general steampunk art gallery with her drawings superimposed over old, yellowing book pages, a mermaid gallery, Whovian art, more Disney art, and just some great pieces.
As a big Disneyland Haunted Mansion fan, I get a kick out of her Star Wars Haunted Mansion series, which includes the picture below, Leia’s Corruptible, Mortal State. Anyone who has gone in the Haunted Mansion will remember the portraits in the stretch room, and these are a fun play on that them. In fact, I think Disney should put them on trading pins.
I sent Karen Hallion an interview request, so, with a little luck, she’ll say yes. Steampunk, Disney, Star Wars, Doctor Who, mermaids, art nuveau, Firefly, and more. This expansive gallery is well worth setting aside an hour or more of time to enjoy.
