B&S #35: McCall's New Wild West Cosplay - Hitched & Prelude

Happy New Year, Steampunks!

Do you have any resolutions? I know, they’re so easy to break. That’s why this year, I simply aim to improve my writing, blog, and YouTube channel. My first goal is to not only finish Bodacious Creed: a Steampunk Zombie Western soon, but to also write one new Bodacious Creed novel per year. I also plan to write two blog posts and create two videos per week. More on that at the end of this blog post, though.

First, let’s get into these new Cosplay by McCall’s patterns!

Bodacious

It’s no secret that my favorite steampunk setting is the Wild West. I mean, look at the title of my upcoming novel. Want to cosplay a casual working woman in Old West, from a soiled dove to a store worker or traveler? Then check these patterns out.

Hitched

This is a fancy lined skirt that hitches up in the front. Cosplaying a vaudeville dancer or parlor girl? This skirt will make the outfit. With its American West aesthetic, this is the perfect basis for a steampunk outfit. Since it shows your legs, consider doing something new like wearing a leather garter with a specialized costume Derringer. Add a small top hat with gear fringe. You could also create faux steampunk cybernetic implants to go on your cheek, head, or neck, perhaps out of crafting foam.

Hitched has three pattern options, depending on the exact length and style you’d like to create. This pattern is also rated Easy, so even beginning tailors can make this. Finally, the package contains tips for sewing with d-rings, which will allow you to adjust the hem length. The pattern sells for just $14.95.

Prelude

Moving from the dance parlor to the boudoir, we have Prelude. Doing a cosplay from Westworld, or, dare I hope, Bodacious Creed? This set of bloomers may be exactly the addition you want. The pattern has three options, shown here.

Rated Intermediate, Prelude also comes with tips for pleats so you can get them just right. They explain how to mark, measure, pin, and more. My steampunk suggestions for Hitched would work great for this one, too. Prelude also sells for $14.95.

Why am I not creating two videos per week now?

It’s my computer. Yes, I’ve mentioned this before! It looks like I’m going to get enough of a tax return this year that I’ll be able to finally get a new computer. I’ve had my current one for more than four years! I like using XSplit Broadcaster, as it has a ton of great features, but my current machine just can’t handle it. So, I should be back to making new videos in the next month or so. Meanwhile, you can check out what I do have on my channel, The Wild Steampunk.

Get Bodacious Creed for Free

Until February 4, I’m running a giveaway! The prize is a free limited edition hardcover of Bodacious Creed: a Steampunk Zombie Western plus trade paperbacks of my fantasy novels Children of Rhatlan and Tamshi’s Imp.

Soon, I’ll have more book reviews and interviews for you to enjoy. See you soon!
